Posting on April 18, 2023 was my appearance on Michael Bailey’s wonderful It All comes Back to Superman podcast, where I discussed the oral history book Voices from Krypton. Here’s how Michael described the episode: “This time out I celebrate Superman’s 85th birthday by talking with writer Ed Gross. Ed has a book titled Voices From Krypton – The Unofficial Unauthorized Oral History of Superman coming out in June, so I thought it would be fun to sit down with him and talk about his history with Superman, why he loves writing oral histories, why he wanted to do this book, and so much more!”
Flash forward to December 19, 2024 and a followup episode devoted to the book I co-wrote with Robert Greenberger, Superman: The Definitive History, which has placed me in the rarified position of having written both the official and unofficial oral history of the same character. Of this appearance, Michael says, “This time out I once again sit down with Ed Gross, who is no stranger to books about Superman or books about pop culture in general. Ed and I have a great conversation that starts with us talking about the finale of Superman and Lois before getting into how this book (which you will need a spotter to read) came about. We chat about the differences in writing this book compared to Ed’s last Superman book Voices From Krypton, how to balance the comic book side of Superman’s history with all of the other places he has shown up over the decades, where we are in terms of Superman’s place in pop culture, and so much more.”
