Media Geek & The Glass Onion Journal Entry #1: ‘It Began With a Dream’

Posted on

Greetings! My name is Michael Greco, also called MG or Media Geek by my friends, for reasons that you’ll pretty quickly discover reading these journal entries.

Speaking of which, while recognizing how corny and clichéd this sounds, the truth is that this entire adventure began with a dream. And I’m not talking about some profound moment of introspection where I suddenly recognized my destiny or received some cosmic insight into the meaning of life. No, I mean an actual dream—the kind you wake up from in the middle of the night wondering what in the world your subconscious was doing.

The funny thing is that for most of my life, I’ve been fascinated by the concept of the multiverse. That obsession probably goes all the way back to Star Trek’s “Mirror, Mirror,” which introduced the idea that another version of reality could exist just beyond our own, one shaped by different choices and darker outcomes. From there came DC’s Earth-1 and Earth-2 crossovers, which completely blew my mind as a kid by suggesting that multiple versions of familiar heroes could exist simultaneously. More recently, the multiverse has exploded into mainstream pop culture through Marvel films and television, but the fascination has always been the same: somewhere out there might exist other worlds where history took a different path.

And that idea has always led me to the same question: what if?

What if one decision changed everything? What if one key event played out differently? What if somewhere out there is a reality where all the things we think of as fixed points in history actually went another way? All of which brings me back to the dream.

In it, I found myself standing in a world that looked almost exactly like our own. Almost. I can’t explain why this became my first concern, but the question that immediately came to mind was incredibly specific. I turned to someone near me and asked whether this world had a group called The Beatles, and whether that group consisted of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.

The answer came back instantly: yes. And they were still together. Not reunited years later. Not a nostalgia act. Not four aging legends making occasional appearances. They were still an active band—still writing, recording and making music together.

Needless to say, my mind was blown.

Once I managed to gather what was left of my brain cells, another realization hit me. If The Beatles still existed in this reality and had never broken up, then their musical journey would have continued in ways we never experienced. That meant more albums, more songs, more experiments, more evolution. Entire decades of Beatles music that simply never existed in our world. That thought hit me like lightning. And suddenly, I was frantically searching for a USB drive.

Yes, I understand how absurd that sounds. I was in an alternate universe and somehow my first assumption was that their storage technology would be compatible with ours. But logic had completely abandoned me at that point. All I could think about was hearing that music. I wanted to know what a Beatles album from 1975 sounded like. Or 1982. Or 1994. I needed to hear the songs that existed in that world and nowhere else.

Naturally, that was the exact moment I woke up.

I lay there staring at the ceiling, disoriented and trying to reorient myself. For a minute or two, the dream felt so vivid that part of me genuinely struggled to accept that none of it had actually happened. No alternate universe. No uninterrupted Beatles legacy. No impossible catalog of music waiting to be discovered.

But then something strange happened.

As the dream began to fade, all thoughts of The Beatles gradually slipped away. The conversation disappeared. The world itself dissolved. Almost everything vanished like smoke.

Almost.

But one image remained. It hovered in my mind with startling clarity: a glowing object suspended in darkness, radiating energy and light. It was beautiful, mysterious and somehow deeply unsettling all at once. I had no idea what it was, but I somehow knew its name.

The Glass Onion.

At first I dismissed it as the lingering fragment of some unrelated dream, just another random image my subconscious had stitched together. But that explanation didn’t last very long as I came to realize something impossible.

The Glass Onion was real.

And once it entered my life, nothing was ever going to be the same again.
